DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
WHY
Kenya, like many developing countries, has made little or no use of precision agriculture
technology. Precision agriculture is an approach to farm management that uses information technology
to ensure that the crops and soil receive exactly what they need for optimum health and productivity.
WHAT
The data driven strategy for precision agriculture is a roadmap to accelerate agriculture value
chain development and modernization. The strategy includes a data strategy that defines data quality
and data stock including non-traditional data usages (i.e. satellite images, mobility data). It also includes
an AI application layer with use case landscape, an architecture for data sharing and a governance
model.
IMPACT
Pest prevention through satellite images. Savings on inputs , through precision agriculture,
often pays for the technology within a year for a large cropping operation and two to three years for
smaller operations.
